Art in empty shops, Derby

1:08 pm places to visit

I recently visited Derby where Artcore have embraced the art in empty shops scheme and have created an exhibition at 48 St Peters Street, Derby.

These types of exhibitions capture a different audience and rejuvinate town centres. Artists yet again, occupy neglected spaces and make them desirable places to visit.

Works include Ivan Smith’s Tension, Iron and Bungee cords and a selection of artwork of artists from the East Midlands, UK, and from Vadodara (Baroda), India. The artworks reflect each artist’s perception and exploration of the theme of Globalisation.

The exhibition ‘Des Pardes: The Challenge of the Glocal’ continues the theme at the DEDA dance centre.

artistsandmakers.com list all the schemes on their website (see empty shops).
